The Women Development Fund (WODEF) served as the convener of the AMPATH AYAM training focused on improving mental health and well-being among young women and girls in Kisii and Nyamira Counties. The training brought together key community actors and partners to address the growing mental health needs of adolescents and young women.
Promoting Mental Health Awareness
The AMPATH AYAM initiative underscores the importance of mental health as a vital part of overall well-being. Through the training, participants deepened their understanding of common mental health challenges affecting young women and girls, including stress, anxiety, depression, and the effects of social and economic pressures.
Building Skills for Support
Participants were equipped with practical skills to identify and respond to mental health challenges within their communities. The training covered psychosocial support, basic counseling techniques, referral pathways, and the creation of safe, supportive spaces for young women and girls to express themselves.
WODEF’s Leadership Role
As the convener, WODEF played a central role in coordinating the training, mobilizing partners, and ensuring effective knowledge sharing. This leadership reflects WODEF’s commitment to integrating mental health into its broader empowerment programs and strengthening community-based support systems.
A Holistic Approach to Well-Being
The training emphasized a holistic approach that links mental health with other key areas such as economic empowerment, education, and social protection. Addressing these interconnected issues is essential in building resilience and improving the overall quality of life for young women and girls.
Looking Ahead
WODEF remains dedicated to advancing mental health awareness and support across its programs. The insights and skills gained from the AMPATH AYAM training will enhance ongoing interventions and contribute to stronger, healthier communities in Kisii and Nyamira Counties.
By convening and leading such initiatives, WODEF continues to champion the well-being and empowerment of young women and girls.
